Fillers
DERMAL FILLERS
WHAT IS IT?
Dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring component of our skin, which integrates into your soft tissues. They come prepared as a gelatinous substance of varying viscosity, ideal for restoring volume and structure, contouring, improving the appearance of lines and overall rejuvenation through its hydrating effect on surrounding tissue. Only small volumes are often required to restore natural appearances. At Dr Shenbana Aesthetics, we want to avoid distortion and overfilling, such as Russian lips. We always offer a consultation to discuss your needs and what is achievable, with the aim of respecting your anatomy and maintaining natural results.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Would I be suitable?
Suitability would always be assessed during your consultation. Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers would not be suitable for those under the age of 21, pregnant or breastfeeding. We would advise to postpone treatment if you have had a recent flare-up of a cold sore, and/or we may prescribe a course of anti-virals.
How is Treatment Given?
We only use the Belotero range from Merz aesthetics, pre-mixed with local anaesthetic, as we find this product gives the best tissue integration and avoids the “puffy” appearance. Topical local anaesthetic (numbing cream) will be applied to the area beforehand. Administration is dependent on the anatomical area being treated; we will use a combination of fine needle injection and cannula technique for high risk and larger anatomical areas. It is usually given as a single treatment, which can be built up over time as required.
Treatment Time?
Area-dependent; up to 45 minutes.
Recovery / Down Time?
We advise to have treatment at least two weeks before a major event, but most of the time bruising and swelling should settle within 3-5 days.
How soon can results become visible?
Usually immediately but give up to 4 weeks; give up to 2 weeks for bruising and swelling to settle.
How long will this treatment be effective for?
5-9 months
Lips- up to 5 months
Face- 6-9 months
What side effects can I have?
Bruising, swelling, vascular occlusion- injection into a blood vessel (this is rare- 1 in 250,000- but can potentially have disastrous consequences; the risk is minimal when administered using the correct technique and if the complication is corrected as soon as it recognised).
What should I do after the treatment?
- Protect yourself with a high factor SPF.
- Avoid/ stop smoking- results are less satisfying and don’t last as long in smokers.
- Avoid re-applying make-up for at least 6 hours after your treatment to optimise healing and reduce the risk of infection.
- Avoid getting excessively hot (inc. sauna/ steam rooms/sun beds) or any vigorous forms of exercise for at least 48 hours after as this reduces its effect.
- Avoid microdermabrasion/ skincare treatments/ hydrafacials/ rubbing / massaging the area for approx. 48 hours after treatment.
- Avoid electrical stimulation facials, as these counteract the effects of the treatment.
- Limit alcohol consumption for 24 hours before and 48 hours after, as this can cause significantly more bruising.
